20th SECEC-ESSSE Congress

Athens, Greece Sept. 20, 2006 - Sept. 24, 2006

The 20th SECEC/ESSSE congress took place in Athens September 20.-24. under the Presidency of Prof Pan P. Symeonides. The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee was Dr John Feroussis. More than 850 participants coming from all over Europe and overseas attended this congress.

The main topics were:  

  • Complications after head preserving surgery for fractures of the proximal humerus
  • Shoulder and sports

The Gala dinner took place on Friday 22. and attracted more than 100 participants in the beautiful Zappeion palace.

78 papers were accepted for oral presentation and 313 posters.

The ASES Presidential Guest Speaker was J. Iannotti whose lecture focused on the new methods of measurement of the glenoid bone loss in arthroplasty. The Presidential Guest Lecture was given by J.P. Warner about “Management of Arthritis and Chondral Injuries in the Young Patient : anatomical reconstructing – proof of concept”.

The Best Paper Prize has been awarded to Adam Hill (UK) for his paper entitled “Micromorphology of the Glenoid Labrum and its Functional Significance”. The Poster Poster rewarded Raffaele Russo (Italy) for his poster entitled “A new concept and surgical technique for the reconstruction of complex fractures of the proximal humerus”.

The DVD prize has been awarded to Laurent Lafosse (France) for his DVD entitled “Suprascapular nerve arthroscopic release”

The European Society decided to grant Euros 13,000 for a research relating to the biomechanical comparison of 3 different types of tendon sutures used in arthroscopic cuff tear repair. This study is guided by Dr Jean Grimberg, Dr Christophe Charousset , Dr Louis-Denis Duranthon.

At the end of this meeting Gilles Walch ended his Presidency and passed the button to Peter Habermeyer who will be the ESSSE/SECEC for the 2 next years.
