Sadly, we announce the death of Professor Mario Randelli who passed away on November 11, 2020, just a few days before his 93rd birthday.
Professor Randelli served as President of SECEC/ESSE in 1990-01, and as President of the 1990 SECEC/ESSSE Congress in Milan. He was very active in the scientific life of our community.
He inspired those who knew him with his administrative capability, his ability to innovate and his surgical skills. But beyond these, he inspired us with his character. He was a humble, steady and honest man with imprecabbly high standards. He dedicated himself to teaching and guiding many young surgeons. To that end, he founded the Italian Shoulder and Elbow Society to provide a platform for others to teach and learn responsible shoulder treatment. Through this Society, Dr. Randelli encouraged, through examples and lectures, a professional approach to modern science, surgical technique and ethical behavior.
We will remember Dr. Randelli for his roles in our scientific societies and his vision leading to the development of shoulder arthroplasty equipment and techniques. His extraordinary natural disposition to learn, to teach and to share his vast knowledge and experience will be his legacy.
We will miss him profoundly but will remember and live by the example he has set for us.
